WHY I'M GOING TO SPECIALIZE IN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY AND WHY YOU SHOULD AS WELL

When I first started out in photography I quickly realized that I wanted to do both photo and video. Over time I came to the realization that video isn’t for me. Here’s my reasoning why!

Doing both photography and videography is quite hard. While they both are in the same ballpark both are quite easily some of the most different field you can be in. With photography I feel as though I’m capturing a moment that may never happen again. With video on the other hand I feel as though I’m creating moments more often than not and my work always seems very disorganized since instead of one photo or even a set of photos I have to worry about matching up shots, color correction, composition, as well as audio.

Photography is one of my passions for a reason and I believe me creating videos stopped me from fully expressing my creative self with photography. I have a philosophy which I believe to be that one person only has a limited amount of creative juice and if they split it between two concentrations the end product might not be as good.

One of the career paths that I plan to go down is wedding photography and hear me out on why I’m specifying myself to a niche like this. In video there are many different jobs that someone can do on a video set or shoot while with photography its most of the time the photographer and the subject. With wedding photography it adds a layer of interest as you have two subjects and infinite possibilities every single time. Video on the other hand feels very limiting and much harder to create something as meaningful.

For example this video below is why I feel as though video is not for me.

While it might seem like a gorgeous video, I painstakingly had to figure out everything and plan a lot more to just create a 57 second clip. With photography I lose the stress of that and am able to create photos that would possibly be better as a whole than whatever video I could make.

While I do agree both photo and video can go hand in hand, I notice a lot of people nowadays try to do both and then do a mediocre job at one of the two. So in my opinion you should specialize, and therefore why I picked wedding photography as my goal career.

YOUTUBE CHANNELS THAT INSPIRE ME

If you’re new here to my blog one thing you have to know about me is that I draw a lot of my inspiration by seeing what my peers and idols are doing in the photography/cinematography industry. Below I’m going to list a couple of my favorites and why they’re my favorites.

YouTube has been one of those places where I can always find something beautiful and interesting to look at. Whether its film photography or cinematography YouTube is a free source of a lot of information and can be kind of daunting to look through. This list of three YouTubers below will be able to help you figure out what you should possibly watch!

One of my favorite YouTubers out right now is called “grainydays”. He makes some of the funniest videos and actually gives out a decent amount of knowledge on film photography. Here is one of my favorite videos of his!

Another really good YouTuber I’ve recently come to watch is Danny Gevirtz. He’s a cinematographer who makes some of the most cinematic videos I’ve ever seen. His use of lighting and color is so amazing that he can make a relatively inexpensive set up look amazing, here is one of his videos explaining what makes his video’s cinematic.

Last but not least one YouTuber that has constantly inspired since I started has been Evan Ranft. He’s a photographer based out of Atlanta, GA and does possibly some of the coolest projects and truly lives the life of a freelancer (which is a dream of mine). Here is one of his recent videos that I loved.

I hope you enjoy watching these guy’s videos as much as I do, and as always follow my Instagram down below!

CREATIVE BURNOUT

From the moment I first picked up a camera I didn’t realize the journey it would bring me on and how much it would shape me and my personality. When I realized I could monetize it, my younger self started shooting as much as I could with as many people as I could. Over time I came to realize that slowly but surely my photography felt more like work for me and wasn’t just a fun hobby I was monetizing.

However by this time I felt so into photography that I couldn’t quit so I did what anyone would do, I bought new gear to reignite my “spark” but it didn’t really do any of that. I kept on pushing myself hoping it would make me feel the creative spark again, but then it hit me. I just needed a break from it all.

So I did just that and over time the feelings came back for photography. Over my recent winter break I went to Mexico once again and visited some friends and made some new ones. Over time I came to realize that surrounding yourself with good people and good company can help inspire you to possibly want to take photos again. Even though I didn’t take many photos I still feel as though it helped reset my creative journey and I’m back on track. I did bring my film camera though so be on the lookout for those photos!

I’m currently in the process of revamping my work and my portfolio so I can become a better photographer and sustainable create a career off of one of my biggest passions. However though I haven’t been slacking so here is one of the most recent videos I’ve created in the past couple of months!

BUDAPEST

So long time no post on here, but I’m back with a little video I made from the time I went back to Hungary on my birthday. I’ve been trying to switch up the style and aesthetic of my work by making it something that is chill and relaxing. Another thing that I tried was the 120 frames per second option on my camera, which for all the people who aren’t camera nerds means that the video is in super slow motion. I didn’t necessarily love it but I can’t say I hated it that much either. All in all tho I had a lot of fun roaming around a city that I’ve been to multiple times and just taking video for the hell of it. It is super relaxing and really does get the creative juices flowing.

SPRING BREAK IN MEXICO

So yet again I took another trip to Mexico, but this time instead of going to Tijuana I ended up in Puebla, Mexico and Tulum, Mexico. You can check my first blog post to see my travel through Puebla the last time I was there but this time I shot a lot more on my film camera.

During my time with my Nikon F100 I ran into a couple problems where it would prematurely say I was at the end of my roll when I wasn’t even a couple shots in which got pretty annoying and I ended up with a lot of double exposures on the edges of my shots. Either way my photos turned out pretty amazing all thanks to the Indie FIlm Lab. I wish this was a sponsored post but I literally just started shooting film so getting sponsored by them probably won’t happen any time soon (if ever). However the roll that I sent in got there quick, and 2 days after it arrived I got my photos in my email and it was displayed in this absolutely beautiful gallery with fairly high resolution scans for the price. Here are some of the photos that I got!

On top of the film I shot I also made a vlog from the time I spent in Tulum. In all honesty I love being able to show my authentic self and show what I really do when I go and travel around with my friends and see the world. Vlogging is honestly so much fun when I’m with my friends and just having a record of all the stuff I do with my friends is always a blast.

In a couple of weeks I think I’ll be finishing up my cinematic video that I took on my trip to Tulum so be on the lookout for that! Thanks for reading and follow my Instagram down below!
