FIRST TIME WITH FILM

Recently I purchased a Nikon F100 to use on my travels and journeys across the world. Ever since I started photography I’ve always had a fascination with the idea of shooting film but my father would always tell me it was a waste of time. Currently in the photography world there is a resurgence in film, so I thought there’s no better time than now to get into the game. After I had made my decision to invest in the medium, I saved up enough money to buy a film camera and some film before I went to Tijuana to visit Damian, one of my friends from exchange. The main reason I chose a Film SLR instead of rangefinder or point and shoot was due to the ease of use. The camera did all of the metering for me and was capable of autofocus. I already shoot with a Nikon so I knew using this camera would be easy (which it was) and I was able to use all the same lenses I would put on my DSLR. I really only liked a couple of the photos that I took, but either way it was my first time shooting film so I probably made some mistakes. Anyways here are some of the photos I got off of my 2 rolls.

In my personal opinion my photos didn’t look to sharp or crazy detailed like other peoples film shots. I think it has to do with the focusing on my specific camera or maybe with the film lab that processed it, who knows? Next time I plan on switching up the film lab I use and possibly scanning my own film and seeing whether that works better considering I can choose to scan whichever ones I like the most in the highest detail. I also ended up resetting my camera’s custom settings back to the factory defaults so maybe that might help. Anyways I know I’ll be able to improve on my film photography and learn from the mistakes.
